A PROFILE OF DIPHU GOVERNMENT COLLEGE

Diphu Government College is the only NAAC accredited higher educational institution in the Karbi Anglong District, the largest district in the state of Assam, falling under Sixth Schedule areas of the Constitution of India. It was through the pioneering effort of cross sectional visionary and sensitive minds like Late Chatra Sing Teron, Late Sai Sai Terang, Late Jogendra Nath Goswami, Late Dhoniram Rongpi, Late Joysing Doloi, Late Sar Rongpi and Late Padma Kanta Barua, that the college came to be formally inaugurated on the 23rd day of June, 1964. The College being a venture Arts College and beginning with only seven students and five teachers was taken over by the Government of Assam in the year 1967. Lot of concerted efforts have been put together by its noble founders, founder Principal P.K.Bhuyan and the student leaders in converting the college into a government college. Science and commerce streams were introduced in the college in the years 1979 and 1987 respectively. The College located in the small hill top of the district head quarter Diphu has now 15 Departments (including statistics and computer science), 3829 students (session 2010-11), 102 teachers and 70 number of non-teaching supporting staff at present.
